Halloween Fun at Oddmall: Hallowondrous

We couldn’t call it Oddmall: Hallowondrous if we didn’t have several spook-tacular events! Okay, they’re not all ghoulish and macabre, but they are sure to be fang-tastic (just like this boo-tiful list of Halloween words I’ve discovered). Stick around for a spell and check out what we have in store…

Monster Makeup Demos, Panels, and Entertainment

Get your scare on and attend a Monster Makeup Demo in the panel room! Our ghoulish friends from Haunted Hydro Dark Attraction Park will be on hand to show us how to disguise ourselves in all the best ways!

We’ll also have other great panels and performances including a panel on Paranormal Investigation. If monsters and spirits aren’t your speed, we’ll also have a Sock Monkey Making Workshop and a stage full of music and family friendly entertainment!

Costuming and CosPlay

If you dig putting on the fancy duds, the steampunk goggles, the stormtrooper armor, the fluffy dog ears, the superhero cape, that little pink number you think your wife doesn’t know about but she really just loves you enough not to mention it, the wizard robes, the Dr. Who scarf, the life-size Godzilla feet, or any other sort of costume, garb, get-up, or disguise then Oddmall: Hallowondrous is the place for you. One of several places, actually (Here’s another).

We love pretending to be things we’re not. After all, in real life I only get to be a sexy secret agent-children’s book illustrator and game designer with a full head of awesome hair and the body of a god (Buddha or possibly Garuda on a bad day)*, but if I raid the costume closet I can be a pirate-ninja-sorcerer-Cthulhu-hutt-girl scout, or a steampunk-superhero-hobbit-fairy, or a ballerina-hot dog-Hogwarts student-timelord, or a zombie-Godzilla-robot, or an ear of corn or whatever the kids are into nowadays.

Anyway, the point is, costumes are encouraged at Oddmall. All costumes (as long as they’re legal and safe for the chillunz to see). Imagination is Earth’s most important resource and we want to see what’s cooking in your noggin. Show us what you’re into. Be PROUD. Sing it LOUD. Don your geek garb and strut your stuff.

To facilitate such snazziness, we have several super-fun CosPlay activities planned. Here are some of them:

Costume Parade

This will be sweet. All of the costumed peeps at Oddmall will form a procession, led by a phalanx of imperial stormtroopers and possibly a marching band, parading their shiny wazoos throughout the entire place, showing off their snazzy duds and brightening the hearts of young and old alike. It will be both the bee’s pajamas and the cat’s knees all rolled into one. It happens Saturday following the costume contest, which takes place at 3pm on the Main Oddmall Stage.

Costume Contest

Just before the parade, at 3pm on Saturday on the Main Oddmall Stage, will be the costume contest on the main stage. PRIZES will be awarded by our celebrity judges and there will be multiple categories (kids, kids-at-heart, groups, best in show, shiniest coat, etc…). Participant check-in will begin two hours before the contest (you must check-in to be in the contest).

Trick or Treating

Oddmall will host its very own Trick or Treating Extravagargantuan Event! Over 175 Oddmall vendors will be onsite passing out candy and raisins and toothbrushes and stuff to all the little ghouls and goblins (and Spidermen and Elsas and that one lazy kid with a white pillow case over his head who insists he’s a ghost but he’s not fooling anybody). Trick or Treating traditionally begins just after the costume contest and parade. (Note to artists and vendors: While encouraged, passing out candy or goodies is in no way mandatory. Feel free to get creative – stickers and other small goodies are great too!)

Bats not all, folks!  We have more!

The Oddmall Kid Cave

Puppet02

The Oddmall Kid Cave is a cool place to hang out for kids of all ages (well, ages 4 and up, anyway). There are all sorts of games, crafts, movies and other exciting and enriching diversions to keep the tykes busy.

Please keep in mind the Kid Cave is NOT a child care facility and we assume no liability for your children. You are free to stay with your children if you so wish.

Gaming

Did you know that Oddmall loves gaming? We do! We have an entire library chock-full of board and card games that we can’t wait to share with you!

Don’t believe us? Here is a peek at a small selection of the library that we brought with us to a previous Oddmall:

If you love games as much as we do, or if you just want to take a break from all of the shopping and costuming to play a quiet little game of Rampage – grab a few friends, borrow a game from the Games Library (or bring your own), and enjoy game time at one of our many open-gaming tables!

If you really love gaming, we recommend checking out Oddmall’s sister/cousin/Uncle’s grandpa event – Con on the Cob. It’s a 4 day event FULL of gaming, cosplay, and artists and vendors! Held at the Days Inn in Richfield, Ohio, this year’s Con on the Cob is November 10-13th. (Registration, game submissions, and Artist/Vendor signups are still open!)

Whew! That’s a lot of stuff!

I know! Isn’t it exciting?!

Don’t be a scaredy cat and come check Oddmall: Hallowondrous out for yourself!

Invite your friends and family!

We can’t wait to see you October 15th and 16th!

Bats all, folks!

And the end of my terrible Halloween puns. I want my mummy.
